A Breakdown of the Cost per Click Numbers
Pay per Click, Pay per Print, MPS or the next variation of letters usually brings you to the same result. By packaging your consumables, service agreement, and sometimes a machine all into one very small fee, represented in cents. Taking a page from the Leasing Industry, if a $300 payment feels better than a $450 payment wouldn’t a $.015 charge sound better than $200 monthly fee. This approach is known as “Breaking Down to the Ridiculous”.
The only objective way to compare a Cost per Click program to your existing program is to look at the costs on an even playing field. Below is an example of a few of the more common HP printers to compare to your Cost per Click program.
HP 4250N, 43 pages per min networked office printer

A $1000 machine that prints 350K – 1 million over the contract would add $.001 to $.0028
A $1500 machine that prints 350K – 1 million over the contract would add $.0015 to $.0043
It is important to remember that although fractions of a penny may seem unimportant, it always pays to check the math. Over the life of a contract you may click hundreds of thousands of pages. 100K x .005 is still $500.00. Often times click programs are set up with minimum fees. You may see a great cost such as 1.4 cents per click but find out you will be charge for 2,000 clicks per month as a base ($28). If you only print 800 pages your real cost per click will be 3.5 cents.
